At Go4Goal we strive to be at the forefront of UK futsal development, working closely with the FA and like-minded organisations to develop futsal in Surrey and beyond.
What is futsal
On a fundamental level, futsal is a variation of indoor 5-a-side football, however in reality it is much more complex than that. A reduced-bounce ball and a unique set of rules recognised worldwide, sets the sport apart from regular football, with a much stronger focus on close control, expression of skill and good decision making.

The game is constantly growing in the UK as a sport in its own right. By relaunching our futsal program, Go4Goal aims to offer young players high-level coaching and a positive experience, with coaches who are fully immersed in the game.
Go4Goal’s specialist futsal coaching program offers sessions to mixed abilities and performance level players at U8/10/12/14/16 age groups, teaching the game within a futsal-specific environment. The program takes advantage our lead coaches’ extensive combined knowledge, and leans on the brand-new smartfootball mehtodology – a training method that has been tried and tested at professional clubs such as Barcelona, and is focused on the development of thoughtful, intelligent players in a stimulating environment.
Due to the limited space on a futsal court, the game intrinsically encourages the movement and rotation of players, as well as instilling in players a sense of innovation and creativity. The sport’s high tempo also inspires quick decision-making in the players.
A platform for success – Futsal in Surrey and beyond
Over the past four years, Go4Goal futsal has enjoyed many successes, at county and national level, including winning the FA National Futsal Championship at two age groups (U14 & U16) in 2017. Our squads have competed in, and won, numerous county tournaments, while our men’s squad has enjoyed two league title wins – both times unbeaten. College and university teams coached by Go4Goal have enjoyed continued success in recent years, including St. Mary’s University Men’s 1st team, which won back-to-back league title between 2015-2017.
Go4Goal lead coach Paul Jones has been an integral part of the Wales national futsal team coaching staff for the past 24 months, helping guide them to the Home Nations Championship in 2016, as well as their best ever points return in a UEFA Futsal qualifying group in 2017.
As part of our further commitment to futsal, Go4Goal welcomed Luis Melville into the team as futsal head coach in April 2018. Luis is a UEFA B Futsal qualified coach (the highest current futsal qualification in England) and has 13 years’ experience in the game, including coaching in The FA National Futsal League and heading up Brentford FC Community Sports Trust futsal program for eight years.
Luis is also a FA Futsal tutor and mentor, and works as an assistant coach within the England U19s set-up for the Regional Talent Centre south region. He has experience coaching all age group and abilities, from ages 5 up to adults.

Futsal in action
What is Futsal?
On a fundamental level, futsal is just a variation of indoor 5-a-side football, however in reality it is much more complex than that. A reduced-bounce ball and a unique set of rules sets the sport apart from regular football, with a much stronger focus on close control and expression of skill.
Where did it come from?
Derived from Spanish & Portuguese words – FUTbol/SALA & FUTebol/SALao [translated: football in a hall], the sport’s roots can be traced back to the YMCAs of Montevideo, Uruguay in the 1930s; though it soon spread across the rest of South America.
Popularised by Brazilian legends Pele, Socrates, Ronaldo, Zico, Ronaldinho and Kaka, as well as European greats Figo, Iniesta, Xavi and Cristiano Ronaldo, futsal is finally being embraced globally as a fantastic sport and a vital development tool for young footballers.
Futsal in the 21st century
Futsal is fully supported by FIFA & UEFA, who host officially recognised international tournaments. In September 2016, the 8th edition of the FIFA Futsal World Cup will take place in Colombia.
